About Civic Village

Our Organization

Civic Village International is a registered Canadian grassroots non-profit organization operating in Liberia, West Africa with a mission of reducing rural poverty, and regional inequalities and promoting social development through community-led development in all fifteen counties in Liberia. We aim to provide community toilets with sanitation, access to clean water, and renewable energy. We also aim to build low-cost homes, schools, and community health centers in impoverished urban and small rural areas using locally available materials and carbon-neutral construction processes to foster sustainable development under the force of global climate change.

Our organization aims to promote eco-friendly development, sustainable agriculture practices, and non-farm-based business, skills, and trade development to facilitate green social enterprises and enhance communal autonomy and community-led development.

Our Mission

​

We aim to promote agriculture and non-farm-based business, financial empowerment for rural citizens, and enhancing communal land rights, and land sovereignty under the increasing threat of land dispossession experienced by communities across Liberia from a socially inclusive bottom-up approach. This will be done by developing a social economy through local job creation for men and women, entrepreneurship, skills and trades development, and literacy and numeracy education for youths to promote long-term financial independence and reduce regional inequalities.

 

We prioritize facilitating community-driven development by creating local farm and non-farm-based enterprises derived from locally sourced sustainable natural raw materials and sustainable built primary and secondary schools for accessible education. Our goal is to bring urban planning to rural areas and give rise to empowered, sustainable, and resilient communities across Liberia that contribute to the national economy.
